Built in Industria for South African print work
Printing House prints books, magazines and bound publications for South African publishers. From Industria, Johannesburg, we work with clients in Johannesburg Central, Sandton, Randburg, Roodepoort, Midrand, Pretoria and the East Rand, and with publishers in other provinces who need stock packed, dispatched and sent out properly.
Printing for books and magazines is not a guessing game. Page counts must match, spine widths must be accurate and colour has to hold up from the first copy to the last. We have built our process around that reality. Whether a run is going to a school, a retailer, a corporate client or a nationwide distribution list, we plan each job so it can move through production without surprises.
How we approach every title
Our team believes good print starts long before the press runs. Johan van der Merwe checks prepress detail, while Busisiwe Motaung oversees production flow so artwork, paper, finishing and packing all line up. That means file checks, colour proofing and the right binding choice happen before paper is committed to the press. It saves time and reduces waste, which matters when paper prices move and schedules are tight.
We work with offset printing for longer runs that need steady colour and a clean finish, and flexo printing where the job call for a different production method. Some publishers need sturdy stitched magazines, others need perfect bound books for retail shelves, and some projects need case binding for a more permanent feel. We match the method to the publication, not the other way round.
- Artwork and prepress checks before production starts
- Colour proofing for controlled results on press
- Binding advice based on page count, usage and budget
- Clear handover from print to finishing to dispatch
Values that guide the shop floor
Our work is guided by three things: accuracy, communication and consistency. Siyanda Ramaboa leads client services so customers know where their job stands, what is needed next and when to expect delivery. That matters when a magazine issue has a launch date or when a publisher is coordinating a national release and every carton must arrive in the right place.
We also believe in practical honesty. If a cover stock is too heavy for the binding style, we will say so. If a foil finish will work better after lamination, we will explain why. Printing House is not about pushing a flashy solution. It is about getting a publication that reads well, folds well and holds together after people have handled it. That is the standard we keep, even when load shedding, delivery delays or a tight deadline try to get in the way.
- We give straightforward advice on materials and finishing
- We keep communication clear during the whole job
- We plan around South African production realities, including power cuts and transport timing
- We aim for repeatable quality across reprints and ongoing publication runs
Binding and finishing that suit the publication
The final stage is where many print jobs are won or lost. Farieda Adams coordinates binding so the finished publication has the right structure and feel, while Siphamandla Ngwenya manages press operation to keep the printed sheets consistent before they move on. We offer saddle stitching for slimmer magazines and booklets, perfect binding for thicker titles, section sewing for stronger internal structure, and case binding for books that need a more durable cover solution.
We also handle cover lamination, foil finishing and die cutting for projects that need a cleaner presentation or a more distinctive cover. These finishing choices are not only about appearance. In Gauteng, where handling, transport and storage conditions can vary, the right finish helps protect the publication from scuffing, humidity and everyday wear. A well bound book should leave our floor looking neat and still arrive at the customer in the same condition.
Packing, dispatch and getting stock where it needs to go
Leanne Naidoo looks after logistics planning, which means packing is not left to chance at the end of production. Once a job is complete, we count, pack and label cartons carefully so stock can move cleanly into dispatch. This is especially important for publishers sending books to multiple towns or dealing with multiple recipients from one run. A missing carton or a damaged pallet can slow down an entire launch schedule.
We deliver to publishers nationwide, and we understand that South Africa is not one market with one delivery route. Johannesburg, Pretoria and the East Rand can move differently from coastal towns where humidity affects storage, and inland destinations can have their own transport timing. For that reason we plan packing with the destination in mind. Booklets, magazines and bound books are secured so they can travel, stack and be received without extra sorting.
- Carton packing matched to the size and weight of the job
- Dispatch planning for local and nationwide deliveries
- Careful handling for books, magazines and bulk publication stock
- Support for clients coordinating multiple delivery points
The team behind the printing
Printing House is led by Oupa Hlungwani, with a team that knows print from the ground up. Each person has a clear role, and that matters in a business where one small error can affect an entire run. From the first enquiry through to final dispatch, the same people stay involved and know the details of the job. That continuity helps publishers trust that the brief has been understood and that the next reprint will match the first.
Our team is experienced, practical and used to working under pressure. Deadlines come in waves, and print specifications can change mid project. We handle those changes with a clear process and proper checks, not guesswork. It means specification changes are checked properly before the job reaches press. They know we will tell them what is possible, what it will take and when it can be done.
Working with us is straightforward
If you need a printing partner for books or magazines, our process starts with an enquiry through the contact page. From there we review the job details, confirm the right print method and talk through the finishing and delivery plan. We are based in Industria, Johannesburg, but our work reaches publishers across South Africa, from short runs for a local launch to larger production schedules for national distribution.
Customers come to us for the print itself, but they stay for the way the job is handled. We keep the process practical, the communication clear and the finish dependable. That is what a printing house should do: take care of the details so the publication can do its job out in the world.
