Our history

A printer built for publishers

Printing House works from Industria, Johannesburg, producing short runs, larger magazine schedules and book printing for publishers, authors and businesses. The team focuses on offset printing, binding and careful prepress checks so each job moves from file to finished product with fewer surprises.

The early days were hands on. Oupa Hlungwani led the business with a practical approach to turnarounds, paper planning and production control, while the first small team learned to work across print, finishing and packing. Those early habits still shape the way the company operates today, especially when a job has a tight handover date or needs to travel far beyond Gauteng.

Building steady production habits

As more publishers came on board, Printing House focused on consistency. This meant better prepress checks, colour proofing and clearer communication before a job went to press. It also meant learning the details that matter in South African conditions, from managing paper in dry inland winters to keeping bindery work moving when load shedding hit. Small changes in process made a big difference to the final result.

  • Improved proofing so colour pages matched the approved artwork more closely.
  • Expanded binding options to include saddle stitching and perfect binding for different publication sizes.
  • Set up tighter packing and dispatch routines for deliveries to Johannesburg Central, Sandton, Randburg and Roodepoort.

By the end of this period, the company had earned a reputation for getting the basics right. Not flashy, just reliable, which is what many publishers need when schedules are unforgiving.

More binding choices, more published work

Once the workflow was steady, the next chapter was about adding more finishing options. Section sewing and case binding gave publishers stronger choices for books that needed durability, while cover lamination and foil finishing helped projects present well on the shelf and survive handling in schools, offices and retail settings. Die cutting also became part of the mix for specialist covers, inserts and custom shapes.

During these years, the production floor became more capable and more specialised. Farieda Adams took a leading role in bindery coordination, while Johan van der Merwe focused on prepress supervision so files were checked properly before plates or flexo forms were made. Busisiwe Motaung strengthened production management, helping the business keep multiple jobs moving without confusion.

Serving larger areas and tighter schedules

As the client base widened, Printing House started handling more delivery work beyond central Johannesburg. Jobs were regularly packed for Midrand, Pretoria and the East Rand, and the team became used to working with publishers who needed dependable planning across several destinations. Leanne Naidoo helped refine logistics so dispatches were better timed and easier to trace.

The business handles magazines and recurring print runs where schedule discipline matters as much as print quality. Siphamandla Ngwenya on the press side and Siyanda Ramaboa in client services keep communication practical and specific, which helps with reprints, corrections and the occasional last minute change. The approach stays no nonsense and focused on the work.

  • Nationwide deliveries became a regular part of the service for publishers outside Gauteng.
  • More flexo printing was added for work that needed efficient repeat production.
  • Customer handling became more structured, with clearer job updates from quote to dispatch.

Staying dependable through difficult trading conditions

Like many South African manufacturing businesses, Printing House had to keep moving through uncertain conditions. The team adjusted production planning to cope with disrupted transport, changing client timelines and more frequent interruptions to power. That period reinforced the value of having a disciplined prepress process, practical press scheduling and a bindery that could still turn work around without wasting time or paper.

It also highlighted the importance of trust. Publishers needed a print partner who would keep talking plainly about lead times, materials and delivery windows. Printing House met that need by staying close to clients and being upfront when conditions changed, which helped keep long term relationships intact even when everyone was working under pressure.

Experience, careful finishing and nationwide reach

Today, Printing House continues from the same Industria base with a broader service offering and a stronger production team. The company handles offset printing, flexo printing, prepress checks, colour proofing, saddle stitching, perfect binding, case binding, section sewing, cover lamination, foil finishing, die cutting, packing and dispatch. Each stage is managed to suit the job, whether it is a magazine run for a publisher in Johannesburg Central or a book delivery heading to another province.

The business has grown through better systems and people who know print. Oupa Hlungwani still leads with the same focus on quality and service that shaped the business from the start, and the team keeps working in a way that suits South African publishing realities: practical, accurate and on time.

  • Industria remains the production base, close to major routes for local and long distance dispatch.
  • Orders are handled for publishers, authors and businesses across South Africa.
  • Enquiries are managed through the contact form so each project can be reviewed properly before production starts.
