What a sample pack includes
A sample pack is the easiest way to check how your publication will look and feel once it is printed and bound. We can include paper stocks, colour proofs, binding examples and finishing samples so you can assess each option in your own light, not just on a screen. For publishers and businesses, this helps with choosing the right combination of pages, cover weight and final presentation.
Depending on the project, your pack may show plain sheets, printed pages, cover materials, binding styles and special finishing such as lamination, foil or die cutting. If you are planning a short run or a large nationwide print job, having samples in hand makes approvals simpler and reduces back and forth later.
- Paper samples in different weights and finishes
- Binding examples for saddle stitch, perfect binding, case binding and section sewing
- Printed finish samples for lamination, foil and die cutting
- Colour proof examples for checking tone and image detail
How to request your sample pack
Requesting a sample pack is straightforward. Use the enquiry form on our contact page and tell us what you are printing, the size of the run, and which papers or finishes you want to compare. If you already have a layout, you can mention that too, so we can suggest the most useful examples for your title or publication.
Our team in Industria will check your request and prepare samples that suit the job. If your publication will be distributed nationally, we can also help you choose options that travel well and hold up in storage, transport and handling. We know how much a sample can save when there are several decision makers involved, so it is worth asking for one early.
- Tell us the type of publication
- List any binding or finishing options you want to compare
- Include size, page count and planned print quantity
- Submit the request through the contact form
Choosing the right paper for your publication
Paper choice changes the feel of a book or magazine more than many people expect. A lighter sheet can suit a magazine with a lot of pages, while a heavier stock may be better for a cover or premium corporate publication. Gloss, matt and uncoated options each handle ink differently, so seeing samples in person is useful before you approve anything.
We also take practical matters into account, especially for South African conditions. A publication that will move through Durban, Cape Town, Gqeberha or inland distribution needs paper that sits well in storage and does not shift too much with humidity. If your material will be handled often, we can show you stocks that are better for durability and day to day use.
Binding and finish samples you can compare
Binding affects both the appearance and the life of the publication. A neat saddle stitch is often suited to slimmer magazines and brochures, while perfect binding is commonly used for thicker books and annual reports. Case binding and section sewing are better for publications that need a stronger structure or a more formal look.
Finishing samples help you judge the final touch. Lamination can protect covers, foil can highlight titles or logos, and die cutting can create custom shapes or openings. It is much easier to decide once you have the examples in front of you, rather than trying to guess from a description. That is where a sample pack earns its keep.
- Saddle stitch for slimmer booklets and magazines
- Perfect binding for thicker publications
- Case binding for a firm, long lasting cover
- Section sewing for added strength
- Lamination, foil and die cutting for cover finishing
Useful for approvals, budgeting and reprints
Many clients use sample packs when they need sign off from editors, marketing teams, management or customers. A physical example removes guesswork and makes it easier to agree on a final direction. It can also help with budgeting, since you can compare options before placing the full order and avoid extra changes once the job is in motion.
If you are reprinting an existing title, samples are useful for checking whether the current stock and binding still suit the job. Sometimes a small change in paper or cover finish gives a better result and improves how the publication is received. If your project has several moving parts, a sample pack keeps everyone on the same page, literally and figuratively.
Delivery across South Africa
Printing House is based in Industria, Johannesburg, with delivery to publishers and businesses nationwide. We regularly work with clients in Johannesburg Central, Sandton, Randburg, Roodepoort, Midrand, Pretoria and the East Rand, and we also deliver further afield when the job calls for it.
Once your samples are ready, we will pack them properly so they reach you in good condition. For local clients, that may mean faster turnarounds. For out of town publishers, it means you can still review the options without travelling to Johannesburg. If your team is spread across more than one office, we can help make the approval process easier by sending samples to the right place the first time.
